Companies House identity verification in Crewe & Cheshire

From autumn 2024, Companies House is introducing mandatory identity verification for all new and existing company directors, Persons of Significant Control (PSCs), and anyone who files on behalf of a company. As an Authorised Corporate Service Provider (ACSP), Barnett & Co can carry out this verification on your behalf.

The new identity verification requirement is part of the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023, designed to combat fraud and improve the reliability of information on the Companies House register. Failure to verify your identity when required will affect your ability to file and may lead to restrictions on your company.

Who needs to verify their identity?

​

• All new company directors at the point of incorporation

• Existing directors of companies currently on the register

• Persons of Significant Control (PSCs) — anyone owning more than 25% of shares or voting rights

• Anyone who files documents at Companies House (including accountants and solicitors acting as agents)

• Partners in limited partnerships and LLPs

How does the verification process work?

As an ACSP, we use XAMA's digital identity verification technology to confirm your identity quickly and securely. The process is straightforward — you provide a government-issued photo ID (passport or driving licence), complete a short digital verification check, and we submit the confirmation to Companies House. You'll receive a unique verification code that Companies House associates with your record.

An Authorised Corporate Service Provider (ACSP) is a firm registered with Companies House that is supervised under UK anti-money laundering legislation.
